A three-point-six magnitude aftershock struck the southeastern city of Pohang in North Gyeongsang Province on Thursday, a day after a five-point-four magnitude quake jolted the city.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the quake occurred at around 9:02 a.m. Thursday at a location eight kilometers north of Pohang’s Buk district. The seismic center was 36-point-12 degrees north latitude and 129-point-37 degrees east longitude with a depth of about eight kilometers.
The agency assessed that the quake was an aftershock of the five-point-four magnitude earthquake that rattled the city earlier on Wednesday, which left 57 injured and one-thousand-536 displaced.
Pohang and its surrounding regions saw a total of eight tremors on Thursday alone, starting with a two-point-four magnitude aftershock at 12:21 a.m.
The weather agency estimated that a total of 41 aftershocks occurred as of 9:02 a.m. Thursday morning.
Due to Wednesday’s quake, which was the second most powerful to hit South Korea, an annual college entrance exam was postponed for one week to ensure safety. It marked the first time for the College Scholastic Ability Test(CSAT) to be put off due to a natural disaster.반응형'News > KBS World Radio' 카테고리의 다른 글
